2016 NYS Superintendent of the Year

Hello and welcome to what we are sure will be another memorable year here in East Irondequoit.

Looking at this year's calendar, it’s exciting to think about all the memories that will be made. From the classroom to the stage to the athletic fields, our students are accomplishing things that we’ve never seen before and I’m sure will continue this year.

Our digital conversion initiative using technology continues to create new opportunities and approaches to learning, giving our students and staff the chance to examine topics in a variety of ways. The approach we have taken to implementing our devices has garnered a great deal of attention. We are one of only 87 school districts in the country to be included in the League of Innovative Schools, an organization intended to find cutting edge methods to accelerate innovation in education.

We are also proud to be one of only two districts selected by the National School Boards Association (NSBA) as a Technology Site Visit location. Educators from around the country will be visiting our schools in November to see firsthand some of the great practices taking place.

Our students have been doing some amazing things outside of the classroom as well. Our cheerleaders captured the first state championship in any sport in school history last winter. Then a few weeks later, our winter drum line claimed a state title as well.

They are also doing countless things that they don’t receive trophies or awards for. They greet veterans returning from Honor Flight visits, raise money for all sorts of causes from food cupboards to animal shelters, and spend many hours donating time for a variety of community service projects. We are so proud of them not only as students, but as caring young men and women.

We are also very excited to announce that we will be launching a new web site soon. The address will remain the same: eastiron.org, but will have a new look, and we hope, will prove easier to navigate. The web site is a great way to keep up with everything taking place in the district and so are Facebook (East Irondequoit Schools) and Twitter (@eicsd).

We hope you find the information in this calendar and parent guide helpful and that you refer to it often during the year as you make this school year one to remember.

Sincerely,

Susan K. Allen
