Yes - the planning for your current 8th grader to move to the high school begins this month. Starting this week, the school counselor, Mr. Traver, will be sharing materials with parents and students regarding the 8 go 9 transition process. Students will be reviewing a Power Point, the Program of Studies booklet and a worksheet in preparation for a classroom presentation in Social Studies class the following week. Please ask your son/daughter to view the PPT and look at the Program of Studies booklet.
The Program of Studies is available on the District website under the “Academics” tab and then the “Academic Programs Overview” heading or can be accessed at the following link: https://www.eastiron.org/Page/4249
Additionally, starting in January, Mr. Travers, will be scheduling individual virtual meetings with each 8th grader to review each student’s selections. This month you work with your child to look over the material and make decisions about which classes to take in high school.
Mr. Traver can be reached by email james_traver@eastiron.monroe.edu.
If you anticipate food needs for the upcoming winter break that starts on 12.24, please give us a call at 339-1405 for assistance.
Please remember, if your son/daughter is an in-person student, at the end of the two day cycle, food to take home is available.
ALL Students must complete the Nearpod. By signing in that will be how we track their attendance for Monday.

If your son or daughter has an incomplete or INC on his/her report card, please reach out to that teacher asap. Fall BreakReminder there is no in person school on Monday, November 23. Students will have a virtual lesson planned for that morning sent by one of their teachers. November 24th-27th, there will be no school
|
The Grading Period ends Tuesday. Teachers have until Friday to enter the grades for students. For the first quarter only, report cards will be mailed home. After that please make sure you are signed up for the Parent Portal, as that will be the platform you are able to view report cards on in the future. We need you as parents/guardians to review your child's grades, talk with he/she about areas of strength, and areas of improvement. Please pay special attention to anything marked incomplete or missing - That means your child missed learning in the first quarter and has to work with their teacher to complete it
As a staff, EIMS believes, our parents/guardians are vital partners in educating our students. After reviewing your son/daughter's grades, we recommend setting one or two goals for second quarter. Thank you for being a partner with us as we work together in educating our Lancers.

We are coming to the end of the first quarter. If you as a parent have not check your parent portal, please do this asap. All missing assignments that you see in the portal are equated to missed learning. If students don't make up the learning and finish the essential assignments prior to the end of the quarter, your child may end up with an Incomplete. If your child receives an Incomplete, they will need to commit time to complete the learning with their teacher(s). If you are still not using the parent portal, call Jacqui Walker @339-1436 and she can assist you with gaining access to the parent portal.
In addition, November 23rd and 24th are parent conference days, no school on either of those days for students. If interested in a parent conference contact the counseling office and they will forward you to the correct team leader. The counseling office number is 339-1405.

This week is Red Ribbon Week!! Thanks to the hard work of our Health teachers, Mr. Dossier and Ms. Ferrari, along with our EIMS PTSA contact Ms. Pacheco, the planned activities are fun and include educational material about the negative impact of substances. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985. This week has a long history in our school communities and we are proud to take time to dedicating this week to the why we shouldn't use substances for our Lancers. This is one week, but I can assure you that our staff spends 365 days a year educating our young minds as to the negative impact substances can have. Make sure you remind your child to join in the fun, but take time to speak to them about the why substance should not play a part in their lives. This year's national theme is; Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Drug Free. Go Lancers!

The plan for school picture retakes has changed. On 10/28 and 10/29 students in need of pictures will need to come to the hall side of the cafeteria after 12:30 pm. They will be pulled from 7th and 8th period classes. If you are an in-person student who still wants your picture taken, please tell your 7th or 8th period teacher and they will write you a pass. Remote learners will be able to come in after school on 10/28 2:30 to 4:30. Please enter the door by the gym, in the back of the school.

Hi Lancer Families,
5 Weeks has ended!!!! Progress Reports are available through the Parent Portal in our student management system, called Infinite Campus or IC. If you have not signed up for the Parent Portal, we need to get you signed up. Not already set up on the Parent Portal - just call Jacqui Walker at 339-1436. EIMS teachers give homework, classwork, or tests/quizzes, to evaluate your child's learning. Missing assignments are a huge issue!!! If your child does not turn their assignments in or complete their tests/quizzes, there is no way for a teacher to accurately assess what your child has learned, and they could end up with a failing quarter grade. It is very important that as a family you stay connected to the parent portal.
You are receiving this survey in the link below to let us know if your student will be CHANGING instructional models for the second marking period on November 9, 2020. Only fill out this form if students in your household that would like to CHANGE INSTRUCTIONAL MODELS. Please fill our this form by October 23, 2020. Once you have submitted your response, you will receive a confirmation call from your student's school. Your decision is final on October 23, 2020. No changes will occur after that until February 1st, the start of the third marking period. We thank you for your continued partnership and for taking the time to communicate your decision with us.

Hello Lancers Families!!
A mid-week email with important news:
We appreciate the support from all of you!!!!
Chris Sloane
When a teacher is absent, a substitute is not able to connect with the remote learners. Therefore all staff who need a substitute have been asked to post a message and directions for the students for that day. If there is a substitute teacher, students should find an announcement in their posts in that specific class/team they are on in the teams app. It should look something like this example supplied by Mrs. Johnson - notice this is under POSTS.
