    Dear DE Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!  If the last six months have taught us anything, it has taught us to be flexible and responsive.  If the future will teach us anything, it will be that we need to stay proactive, forgiving, and mindful.  All of us at DE cannot wait to get our students back, either in-person or those of you that are going remote to start the school year.  We are hopeful that all our kids will be back in-person soon.

I cannot stress enough just how proud I am of all staff in our building, and at the district level. East Irondequoit was positioned well for what the world threw at us back in March of 2020.  Our technology, the skill set of our instructional staff, and our 1:1 device initiative gave us a huge advantage when it came to our kids learning remotely.  The lessons we learned will continue to serve our community well as we move forward.

As we prepare for September, I want to assure you that every decision made has been made with one thing in mind, the health and safety of our students and staff.  From our face masks policy and socially distanced classrooms, to explicit lessons for students on proper mitigation efforts geared toward COVID-19, we are confident we are doing all we can to keep everyone safe.

I would ask for patience as we apply new routines around student drop-off and pick-up, for example.   And, for grace with school staff as we navigate our current normal.  Teachers (both remote and in-person) will be doing things a little differently to keep kids safe and our school health staff will be charged with making decisions that may not always be popular, but necessary as we follow CDC and the Monroe County Department of Health guidance.  Please know we will keep you all informed to the extent possible.

We will begin our year focusing on the social and emotional needs of our students (either in-person or remote learners) and staff. We will also focus on the academic needs our students may have and provide them with a robust learning environment that will challenge them and set them up for success as we move forward.

Please know I am just a phone call away should you need anything.

I wish you all good health.
