Principal's Update

  • Good Afternoon,

We hope you are enjoying the Snow Day!!!!  This email will update you on a few items.

    • Reports Cards are visible on the parent portal – please look at them!!!!
    • A fun fact – 48% of the students in the building will be receiving high honor or honor roll letters home shortly.  NICE!!!! Go Lancers
    • A second  fun fact – 75% of our student population have no discipline concerns – have never had a referral!!!!  Go Lancers
    • A third fun fact – our students love school so much we have a 93% daily attendance rate.  Go Lancers – room for improvement but with all the flu going around – thanks for pushing your students to come to school.
    • The Dance tonight is canceled
    • A reminder that February break starts at the end of the coming week – we have no school Feb 17th – 21st.  Have a great break
    • If your son/daughter is going to stay after with a teacher, starting Feb. 24th, they will need to get a pass before the end of the day.  No student should tell you they are staying after if they can not tell you with which teacher or what club.  We have less supervision after school, and we want to have everyone be safe and accountable.  Thank you
    • A reminder that school ends at 2:15.  If you are going to pick your son/daughter up, please try to be here by 2:45.  If it is going to be later, we will be asking students to stay in the detention room, not as a punishment, but again we need them supervised.
    • If your son/daughter accumulates 3 tardies to school – they will be assigned a detention if those tardies are not legal.  What is a legal tardy; a doctor or dentist appointment, a lawyer/legal appointment, or if your child wakes up sick but decides to come to school.  These are the only legal tardy reasons.  We know sometimes people wake up late, or stop for breakfast, or the car doesn’t start – please be aware these are not legal tardy reasons.  Thanks
    • If you get time – this is some great music remixes produced by Ms. Jenkins general music class.  Very cool stuff!!!

    • Some dates to remember:
      • March 5th is the next PTSA meeting and we NEED officers.  Many of our current parents “graduate” this year.  Please volunteer
      • If you son/daughter is in our AVID program – March 10th is our AVID family night – mark your calendar
      • There is an early release day March 13th – due to K-8 parent conferences.  Middle school students will be dismissed at 10:45
      • Modified Spring Sports start March 23rd

  • Dear Lancer Families,

As we approach the holiday break, there were a few things we want to communicate to all.

    • After the holidays the 8th grade will be selecting classes for 9th grade – I know it is hard to believe.  The selection options are listed in the attached link which takes you to the website.  Ms. Harnden will meet with students in their classes, we will then send you a list of courses your son/daughter selected to review, and if you have further thoughts, questions, or changes you will then work with Ms. Harnden.  Please be proactive over break and take a look at the website.  The selection going into 9th grade are a little more simple, for example, if your son/daughter is in algebra, then they will sign up for geometry.  Thanks for taking the time to look over this information.

    • Save the Date – January 23rd PTSA will be hosting an informational night for parents about substances for example the effects of vaping.   We will also have Drug Free Irondequoit, who will be setting up a bedroom scene that contains items you might not think could be substance related.  The evening will start at 5:30 for grades 6 and 8.
    • The same night is a Save the Date for current 7th grade parents to learn all about the annual trip to Washington DC.  This meeting will be 6:00 pm on January 23rd in the café.  7th grade parents can then par-take in the other activities once your Washington trip meeting has concluded.
    • In addition to this informational meeting, the Scholastic Book Fair will be going on in the library.  Thanks to the PTSA for making this all happen.

    • Did you miss the recent concerts – please follow this link - Click the "Photos/Videos" icon on the upper right of the district home page, then select "2019-20 Concerts" on the left side.

It will also be airing on EITV channel 1301, you can find the schedule here.

    • Friday, December 20th, your son/daughter can support our National Junior Honor Society by bringing $1.00 to wear PJ bottoms or a hat.  The money collected will be donated to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.  Please don’t send them in PJ’s or a hat without that $1.00.

We at EIMS hope you have a wonderful holiday season and enjoy your two week break!!!!  Find joy in family, friends, and fun.  I would also like to announce that I have accepted the District’s offer to continue on next year as Interim Principal.  The goal is to offer the school community consistency in the leadership team.  I am super excited to stay on – love being a Lancer!!!!

    Best Wishes,

    Chris Sloane

  • Good Afternoon,

The entire staff at EIMS would like to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving break.  We hope you have time to enjoy family and friends over the next few days!

When your sons/daughters return to EIMS on Dec 1, there are a few items that we need to “reset”.  Please take a moment to review these items as a family – none of these items are new – nor are they hard rules to follow.  Thanks.

    • Please place your coats, backpacks, PHONES, and headsets/ear buds in your lockers.
    • Sweatshirt hoods are not to be worn – we need to see who you are and we like to see your smile
    • No food in the classrooms.  Do not wait until the last minute to get breakfast or lunch and expect extra time.  We have to much to learn for you to miss class time.
    • The building is not big – get to class on time and be ready to learn.
    • Unless you have a reason to be after school, are on a sports team or have an appointment to stay with a teacher – you need to exit, go home, and not hang out here.  Please remember teachers are not typically available on Thursdays -so again unless you have an appointment with a teacher, please go home.
    • Winter sports are starting and so will games.  Please be aware now, to attend a game you need to come with a parent or a guardian.  Staying after school until a game starts is not an option.
    • Running, skipping, hopping, call it whatever other then walking in the halls will be an automatic after school detention.  The chasing or playing tag, is not ok as it creates a dangerous situation for the others in the hallway – stop the nonsense.
    • The cafeteria has been very busy, lots of moving between tables, leaving messes on the table.  Therefore, if it continues after break we will be forced to either assign seats, or have the students sit with his/her team and close the middle door.  This is not what we want to do!!!

We will be busy after the holiday reminding students of these simple – not new – rules.  Your help in communicating the why to having these rules is so helpful and totally appreciated.

    • Great news we got our attendance data for the first month of school and we have a 95% attendance rate!!!!  What this means is if the students are in attendance, the teachers are able to build their knowledge and skills.  The goal is to be at this level of attendance all year.  Please help us by sending us your son/daughter every day.  Each minute in class matters!  Thank you for the support.
    • If your son/daughter is attending tonight’s big football game, a parent/guardian must attend too.  Also, they will be checking bags.  Go Lancers!
