A Welcome Back Message From Superintendent Grow

To all of our students, parents and guardians,

On behalf of the Board of Education and the entire East Irondequoit Central School District, welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

This summer we warmly welcomed more than 50 new folks in departments across the district.  It is always wonderful to have new people decide to join our Lancer family!

Although it has been a quick summer, the team in East Irondequoit has been hard at work preparing for the new year.  Teachers and administrators worked together to revise and create curriculum across multiple grade levels while also unpacking the Next Generation Learning Standards.  This is the second year that school districts across New York State will continue implement the Next Generation Learning Standards for English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics with full implementation planned for September 2020.   This is important work which will directly impact teaching and learning in East Irondequoit.

As we begin a new school year, I want to stress the importance of having all of our parents and guardians as partners in your student’s educational journey.  We need all of our students in school, and on time, every day.  There is no doubt that student achievement and attendance go hand in hand and we need your partnership in ensuring that this happens.  In October of this year at our secondary levels, we will implement a new automated call attendance system.  This system will send you a morning phone call alerting you at home, that your student has not reported to school.  This will not only alert you that your child is absent but it will also remind you to provide a reason for the absence when your student returns to school on the following day(s).  Using this tool to notify you of your child’s absence will provide us with another layer of student safety.

I am extremely proud of our school and the entire East Irondequoit community.  We have such a caring and committed staff working here that go above and beyond to welcome your children every day. I am grateful for the work they do and the work that each of you do to partner with us in providing the best education for your child(ren).  I look forward to meeting you at school events and in the community throughout the year.  Happy New School Year!
