A Letter of Thanks from the Board of Education to Foundation Aid Advocates

The East Irondequoit Board of Education would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has been dedicated to advocating for the full funding of Foundation Aid that school districts like ours were promised by the state over a decade ago.  This ongoing struggle to secure the funds owed to us has caused a yearly deficit in our budget that could have helped to further enrich our students’ education.

Many individuals and groups played a key role in making sure that our message was heard in Albany.  First and foremost, the Board would like to thank fellow EI board members Carol Watt, Pat Storm and Jill Ricci.  They have been tireless advocates for our students and families.  In addition, thank you to Superintendent Mary Grow and Deputy Superintendent John Abbott for consistently and eagerly staying dedicated to this cause.

Advocacy for this funding was not done solely on a local basis, it was supported throughout the region and the state.  Many thanks to the Monroe County School Boards Association, the New York State School Boards Association, and the Fight for Brighton group, which has been at the forefront of this effort.

Additionally, we would like to thank our state representatives, Senator Samra Brouk and Assemblyperson Sarah Clark who listened and responded to our requests and helped secure the money owed to us.

We are very pleased that the East Irondequoit Central School District will be receiving these funds and we will use them to continue to provide the educational opportunities that the families of East Irondequoit deserve.
