Join the Community Conversations: Henrietta Lacks, Health Equity & COVID-19

July 13, 2021 at 6:30pm

Participants will reexamine The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and are encouraged to read the award-winning book by Rebecca Skloot or view the television drama starring Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne. On July 13th, small breakout groups will discuss topics like how the HeLa cell revolutionized medical research, current and historical issues in medical ethics, and the role that race and class play in predicting health outcomes.
Attendees are also invited to view a live panel discussion of local health experts moderated by Alexis Arnold from 13WHAM. Panelists will provide professional insight into the themes explored in Henrietta Lacks as well as speak to the current state of healthcare and health equity.
