Elena Matthews being sworn in by the district clerk

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Elena Matthews was officially sworn in as the newest member of the East Irondequoit Board of Education. Matthews, who was elected during the 2026 Board of Education election, will serve a one-year term.

Inspired by her involvement in district schools, Matthews shared, “My involvement in our schools is what inspired me to run. I am deeply committed to ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed in all areas and that every staff member feels supported in making that possible.”

She added, “I care about this community because it’s our home; we started our family here. I’ve built meaningful relationships through our schools. I’m committed to listening, showing up, and working collaboratively to support decisions that are in the best interest of all students, families and staff.”
