IG celebrated Read Across America Week with a Reading Road Trip. Each class set a goal of how many read-a-louds they could complete in a week and charted their progress on a map. Some classes “visited” different states by reading books that were set in that state, then they colored in that state on the map as they journey across the USA. Our I-Van Green van driven by Mr. Hiley moved down the hallway to record all the books read during the week. Ivan Green read a total of 372 books!

For Read Across America week, Ms. Frey’s 2nd grade class at IG read from Maine to Oregon! They read over 15 books, and “traveled” 85 hours by car, 98 days by foot. Several guest readers joined them.

Students at EIMS participated in a Portraits of Peace community-school project this week where they discussed how they can achieve peace in different settings. Students created canvases where they expressed what peace means to them. These canvases will be displayed in both EIMS and eventually businesses in the community. The project was made possible through grant funding from the M.K. Ghandi Institute for Nonviolence. #LancerPride
