Hello DE Families, I wanted to take a minute to let you know that, for the second year in a row, we have completed our sessions with The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester (formally known as Bivona). Using the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, Child Safety Matters™ program., our goal is to empower children to spot and respond to bullying, cyberbullying, child abuse, digital dangers, and ultimately keep all children safe. Most importantly, it teaches that adults are responsible for all children’s safety. The Program is based on research and has been reviewed and endorsed by national experts. In grades K-5, a trainer from The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester leads the lessons, supported by district staff and teachers. Partnering with The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester to deliver lessons at our K-5 schools is not in response to a specific problem in our school district, but an additional layer of support and awareness for our community. That said, some areas addressed in the curriculum, like bullying and abuse, exist routinely in society and our children may be exposed to them. The goal is to prevent these problems from happening. You can learn more about the Program by going to our district website and clicking on For Parents – Family Resources – Prevention Education - MBF Child Safety Matters. This will provide you with additional program information, and access to other resources. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
